Mathematics of Animation
In the past few years, animations on the web have evolved dramatically. We are able to build animations that generate and manipulate complex geometry, react to user input and tell captivating stories. Varun finds himself looking at all this amazing work and asking, “How did they do that?”
For web developers, going from working with the DOM to directly manipulating geometry and graphics requires a bit of a mental shift. This talk will explore some basic mathematical concepts that are often encountered when creating animations. Focusing on 2D geometry, Varun covered topics such as trigonometry, co-ordinate systems, curves and vectors. Making these sometimes intimidating concepts accessible to everyone.

What is Innovation Really?
Innovation is one of the ultimate buzzwords of our era but what is it really? What is its meaning? How can we see it? Replicate it? Scale it? In his talk, Mike proposed that innovation really is the “removal of friction” from a system; and that through this lens we can understand the rise of design, lean startup, Silicon Valley and possibly many other innovative happenings across time.

- A new framework for identifying innovation
- How innovation equals the removal of friction
- How Apple applies this process and how Microsoft didn't
- The dangers of co-opting the language of innovation without actually solving real problems
